I’ve used boiling white vinegar to help clean out buildup in coffee machines and in the steepers. It doesn’t smell great, but that goes away quickly and will not effect the taste of your tea when rinsed out well with hot water. Just make sure to disassemble to rinse everything after the vinegar.
